Selecting a class lighter than your real-world use voids the manufacturer warranty and risks motor failure. If unsure, pick the highest expected class — the hoist you actually need.

The GIS GP ATEX is the explosion-proof execution of the proven GIS GP electric chain hoist for hazardous areas as defined by directive 2014/34/EU. Choose the dust-proof GP D model for Zone 22 (flammable dusts) or the gas-proof GP G model for Zone 2 (explosive gas atmospheres, includes Zone 22 dust protection). Every hoist ships with the EC declaration of conformity, the ATEX annex to the operating instructions and an inspection pass.

- Gas-proof version requires an on-site compressed-air supply of 4–10 bar (pluggable 6 mm hose connection)
- Full GIS GP capacity range 100–6300 kg (GP250 to GP2500 frames), lift heights 3–60 m, duty classes M3–M7
- Manual (GHF) or motorised (GMF) trolley — the motorised trolley is supplied in the same ATEX execution as the hoist with shared overpressure monitoring on the gas version
- ATEX-certified control pendant (2- or 4-button with emergency stop); the GIS standard IP65 pendant remains sufficient for many Zone 22 dust applications
- Safety radio remote control available for the dust-proof version

Before you order Project product — the final configuration is confirmed by our technical team before the order.
To confirm the right configuration we will ask you:
- Official ATEX zone classification: gas or dust, group, temperature class, required category/EPL, ambient temperature? 'ATEX' is not a specification. Without an official zone classification no equipment should be selected automatically.
- Heaviest load and how often per hour / per day? Duty class (FEM/ISO) must match the cycle rate or the hoist overheats and wears fast. WLL alone never decides the model.
- Lift height (hook path) and headroom available between beam/hook and the load? Chain length must cover the hook path; hoist + trolley + hook height must fit the headroom, measured on the whole assembly.
- Is there a certified suspension point: beam, jib crane, gantry, runway? Beam profile (IPE/HEA/HEB) and flange width/thickness? Without a suspension point the hoist cannot be used; the trolley must fit the flange and the beam must carry the load.
- Power available: 3×400 V, 230 V, frequency; or compressed air (pressure and flow at the hoist)? Decides electric vs. pneumatic; single-phase limits capacity; air pressure at the compressor is not pressure at the hoist.
Typical mistakes to avoid
- Writing 'ATEX' is not enough — the whole installation (hoist, trolley, control, cable) must match the classified zone.

Duty classes M3–M7 shift the rated capacity envelope exactly as on the standard GP hoist (e.g. GP 2500/2B carries 6300 kg at M4); the heavy-duty B profiles remain available on the GP 2500 frame. Dust-proof (D) execution: II 3D Ex tc IIIA T130 °C Dc. Gas-proof (G) execution adds II 3G Ex pzc IIA T3 Gc and requires 4–10 bar compressed air on site. Klixon temperature surveillance, geared limit switch, Ex cable glands and IP65 are standard on both executions.
